We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Marketing Technology & Data & ML Platforms team that builds and integrates enabling technologies to power all aspects of customer acquisition, retention, and engagement. We also expose best-of-class third-party and other Wayfair technologies through our platforms so marketers and suppliers can leverage them for their businesses. We empower Wayfair teams to make data-driven decisions at scale by providing data platforms and machine learning capabilities, enabling customers to make home a reality.


What You’ll Contribute Day-to-Day:

  • Work with a variety of technologies including Java, Python, Kafka, Kubernetes, Spark, Storm, Flink, GCP, and more
  • Think outside of the current technology/stack limitations to push the boundaries on what is possible and deliver feasible solutions collaboratively 
  • Partner with product leaders to understand technical pain points for data scientists and other engineers and translate them into clear and robust engineering solutions
  • Build systems with clear contextual boundaries, that expose user-friendly APIs, and have well-defined SLOs and SLIs
  • Promote a culture of engineering excellence and strengthen the technical expertise of our engineering and product teams 
  • Provide high quality reviews, for both code and technical designs 


You’ll Be a Great Fit If You Have:

  • B.S. in computer science/related field or equivalent experience (3+ years) in software engineering and designing systems at scale
  • 5+ years experience programming in Java and/or Python
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated experience driving teams forward and ability to influence technical decisions to line up with the company’s strategy 
  • Hands-on experience driving software development within high-growth environments at scale 
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and hypothesis- driven critical thinking skills to transform data into actionable insights
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining high scale software systems 
  • Prior experience owning and proactively delivering on impactful software systems initiatives 
  • Exposure to a variety of software development patterns (Examples can include: test-driven development, object-oriented design, functional programming, stream processing, circuit-breaker pattern, etc) 
  • A collaborative outlook and desire to do the best you can so that your team overall delivers on its mission

It's An Added Bonus If You Have:

  • Mix of start-up and large-company experience working on software solutions
