What You’ll Contribute Day-to-Day:

An Associate Data Engineer contributes to the implementation of data flows, as designed by senior members of the team, to connect operational systems and capture data for analytic and business intelligence purposes. 

  • Document source to target mappings; support the build of data streaming systems; writing ETL scripts and code for optimal ETL process performance
  • Develop reusable business intelligence reports and build accessible databases for analysis
  • Maintain awareness of information security & security controls that can be used to mitigate security threats within solutions and services
  • Maintain awareness of the need to translate and communicate technical concepts into non-technical language and understand how to communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Undertake data profiling and source system analysis; present clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data
  • Participate in the design, building and testing of data products based on feeds from multiple systems using a range of different storage technologies and/or access methods; create repeatable and reusable products
  • Remain aware of opportunities for innovation with new tools and uses of data
  • Understand concepts and principles of data modeling with ability to produce, maintain and update relevant data models for specific business needs; reverse engineers data models from a live system
  • Understand the systems integration impact, analysis techniques and data usage
  • Maintain a repository to ensure information remains accurate and up to date
  • Maintain awareness of the types of problems in databases, data processes, data products and services
  • Investigate problems (low complexity) in systems, processes and services, with an understanding of the level of a problem (e.g. strategic, tactical, operational); contributing to the implementation of remedies and preventative measures
  • Take inputs and establish coherent frameworks that work
  • Understand core technical concepts related to the role of a data engineer and apply them with guidance


You’ll Be a Great Fit If You Have/Are:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, or a Bachelor of Arts Degree in a related technical field
  • 2+ years related work experience in data engineering or similar role or any equivalent combination of experience and training/certification in platform maintenance and development
  • Experience with object oriented/object function scripting languages such as Scala and/or Python
  • Experience with public cloud technologies in Google (preferred), AWS or Azure
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as SQL Server, Postgres, Cassandra, etc.
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing and highly scalable big data stores
  • Familiar with financial/ERP systems such as Oracle Cloud ERP
  • Familiar with big data applications such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
  • Experience with manipulation, processing and extracting value from data sets
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and development processes
  • Understanding of root cause analysis on data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
  • Experience with data pipelines and workflow management tools such as Airflow
